- Riley just wears black jeans and gray and black striped shirts. On special occasions, she wears a turtleneck and a long skirt of the same colors. She doesn’t care much about appearance, so it doesn’t bother her that she technically wears the same clothes every day. Her hair has no real style, hanging down towards her shoulders, and her bangs hang in her eyes. No makeup or jewelry; she will never feel comfortable asking her uncle to help her with it, so she doesn’t wear it on special occasions either. Riley doesn’t smile that often, normally wearing a neutral expression or frowning. -

- There are two sides to Riley. The real her, and her other self that she puts up as a shield. She does not have multiple personality disorder; she just doesn’t let her real self show through. Riley acts uncaring and sarcastic to keep people away from her. Her shield has a short temper, and it bows to nobody. The cold persona people believe her to be is not really her though. Riley actually does have feelings though. She cares about her uncle, and actually can be nice. Her tolerance of pity isn’t part of her shield though. Riley truly cannot stand when people pity her. Someone can make fun of her; she’ll be mean right back. Someone can scoff her, she doesn’t care. But pity will just make her blow up. When she was younger, it wasn’t as bad: she wasn’t as confident. The shield helped her confidence grow, so now she will not act polite and just live with it.–
Character History ´ Those tales you cannot find on books
Family
Uncle: Ozymandias Riley
-Icarus and Brady Riley were driving to visit Icarus’s brother Ozymandias when Brady was 6 months pregnant with their daughter. An impatient driver pulled in front of them, thinking he was only going to cause a near wreck. He never thought that he would actually cause a wreck. The driver was killed by a broken neck, Icarus was unconscious but unharmed, and Brady was relatively unhurt and awake. But the airbag had slammed into her very hard. And then the seatbelt tightened a good measure, not to mention how hard she rammed into the dashboard. Hard enough that she had started to panic about her baby’s welfare. When the ambulance arrived, she demanded she be taken to the hospital immediately, to make sure Desdemona, the name she and Icarus had decided on for their child, was still alive. She was alive, so Brady relaxed. Her calmness about their daughter’s health make the brothers happy that she never learned about the damage the accident caused because she died in childbirth. The impact suffered during the accident caused damage to Riley’s occipital lope in her brain, rendering her totally blind. Ozymandias visited often in hope to at least be some form of a parental figure to his motherless niece. To be exact, he was visiting when Icarus was attacked. Icarus was a mechanic, and was working late one night. A customer came in after hours, knowing Icarus would be there like he promised. The last thing the customer expected to see was a pale, red eyed human drinking Icarus dry of blood. The killer ran off immediately after it saw that it’d been seen, so the customer didn’t get a very good look at it. 911 was called when it turned out that Icarus still had a pulse. Having heard that her father was in danger, Riley ran into the emergency room ahead of her uncle, who was calling for her to come back. She ran smack dab into a table, cutting a gash on her forehead, then forced her way through the people who were in the room. When Ozymandias finally caught her, she had two more cuts and four spots that were sure to bruise. The fear and pain she felt there gave Riley a phobia of hospitals ever since. She began to hate them when she heard that her father had died. She was six years old then. Guardianship was passed onto Ozymandias when her last surviving parent died. Unbeknownst to him though, Riley was having trouble at school. Not academic trouble, but social problems. People didn’t want to be near the blind girl. Some thought it was amusing to make fun of her, to be exact. Moving her cane so she couldn’t find it, sticking their foot in front of her at the last minute, plain out teasing her. Still only six years old, nearly seven, and her shield was beginning to form. Three boys were calling her Desde-moron at recess, then switched to making fun of her voice. Riley had her mother’s blue eyes, thin frame, and voice. Brady had had a rough voice because she was from farther up north than Illinois. They started chanting ‘husky voice’ over and over, then one of them suggest they call her Husky from now on. That was when the shield snapped into place for the first time, when she yelled back a question on what was wrong with being called husky, and punching at where the voice of the response to her unspoken challenge came from. While she was not as strong as the boys, she was naturally good at staff fighting, which consisted at the moment as smacking whoever made a sound with her cane. It took two teachers to break the four of them up. –
Role-play Sample ´ It’s time to prove your value
- How do you help a tree after its branches have been shot off? In winter they don't need the extra limbs as much, but when spring comes 'round, they need leaves to live, and what do leaves grow off of? Common sense people. Also, who hunts in winter? Most game is hibernating, so why bother? Whatever idiot who decided to come out here with a gun must have been a lousy shot, so many trees were missing branches. A forest ranger would become depressed seeing how much damage the amateur gunman had done. Bullets littered the ground around the tree trunks, more than Rex could count to in English. It was truly sad.
Understandably, the two venison were more scared of the vampire that was chasing them than the scent of gun powder in front of them. They probably would have run, even if the vampire had been human. Spiky red hair, no shoes, mismatched eyes, even a cop would have been creeped out. The two deer, both fawns, went into the war zone like trees and split apart, going into two different directions. Rex hadn't been chasing them for their blood, just for fun, but even if her throat had been burning with thirst, she would have stopped at this sight. Her brother, Coriander, made fun of her for caring so much about any living thing. Heck, Rex had spent a year trying to find a way to bring animals she had killed back to life. Her efforts had been fruitless, but she could help the plants at least.
Finding which branch went to which tree, and then where on each tree was monotonous, but she stuck to it. No one else could fix the trees like Rex could, so she felt duty bound to do it, as well as plain just wanting to do it. Hold up branch, cover broken ends with hand and then see if it heals back together. As the number of branches went down, more were getting fixed on the first try. Soon, there were only four trees left with missing limbs. One had lost a branch near the top. What the heck had that hunter been aiming at all the way up there? Birds had migrated a long time ago. A squirrel maybe? Rex gathered up the remaining branches and climbed up to find the tree's match. This situation would be a bit hard to explain if somebody came by, but not many people go walking in the woods when it's cold, so Rex felt relatively safe. Branch one, nope, branch two, nada, maybe branch number three would be the missing branch.... -
