When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
AND THERE IS NO ONE THERE DO DRY YOUR TEARSi could hold you for a million years, to make you feel my love. - - - - - - - - When on the rainy afternoon Edward Cullen had stepped inside the classroom and took his usual seat at Mr. Banner’s Class, there was something perturbing his usual tranquil mind. The name, Alice Cullen, his pixie-like sister that had been bothering him the last day for having skipped classes on the very day a new student had enrolled the student body, one girl by the name of Bella Swan. Sighing tirelessly as he waited the classroom would start to be filled by the usual noise and chatter from the other students.
Apparently, his stubborn little sister was ecstatic to find out the new girl was going to attend his class for some dark and well hidden reason Alice refused to tell him or show that, which was particularly exasperating for him. All he had managed to steal from her was that the girl, the local police chief daughter, was supposedly especial. Unfortunately enough, when determinate, Alice knew exactly how to keep her thoughts from him and, before he had managed to catch anything else, she avoided his question by focusing in a pink and white dress she had seen somewhere else.
Edward was sure, however, time would prove Alice was wrong this time and so, as he readjusted his position on his chair, he sighed boringly while watched the other students join the class and fill every desk, except his. He smirked for himself and looked distracted at his book. Fortunately no one was brave enough, with a fair good reason obviously, to seat besides him. As far away they are from me, as safer it is for them... He joked for himself darkly while waited the beginning of the class.

Her first day hadn’t been as bad as she’d made it out to be. At least people had talked to her. And she hadn’t eaten lunch alone either, so that was good. She really had no idea why everyone avoided the Cullens. Alice was the nicest person she’d ever met, and full of energy too. Bella felt tired after just talking to her. But it was nice to have someone to talk to, and so she enjoyed the girl’s company. She’d also been told that there were four other Cullens at the school, and that they had been absent her first day. She didn’t question why because she didn’t really care. She would probably run into them eventually, and she would deal with it then.
Today, it was raining as usual, and it made her feel depressed and sluggish. She felt like going right back to sleep and staying there the whole day. It was probably better than class anyway, since she was slightly ahead of the rest of the group. As she walked through the door to her next class, she was hoping that it would be just like yesterday: she would be able to sit by herself and have time to think and relax. Unfortunately, all the desks were filled, and there was only one seat left. That seat was next to someone who hadn’t been there yesterday. He was as pale as Alice, strangely enough. And he looked almost bored, like she was, just staring down at his textbook. She walked toward the desk, realizing that class was about to start.
After she’d taken her seat, she pulled out a notebook and pen, ready to take notes. The teacher, Mr. Banner, was not there yet, so she started doodling on the blank page in front of her. She should have been polite and introduced herself to the boy next to her, but she was too shy. She did, however, glance at him once in a while. He was incredibly good-looking, just like Alice. They both looked like they belonged in a magazine somewhere. Bella almost felt guilty sitting next to him, ruining his image with her plain-jane looks.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
AND THERE IS NO ONE THERE DO DRY YOUR TEARSi could hold you for a million years, to make you feel my love. - - - - - - - - What was taking the professor that long to arrive and start the class, and was him that anxious? Tapping with his finger, softly, on the surface of his desk, Edward couldn’t help but sight exasperatingly as the time kept passing and every student seemed to fill the class without any sign of Mr. Banner. Searching distractively for any faint sign of the Biology Professor thoughts, Edward dived in the crowd of silent voices around him until he finally found the professor’s thoughts among the tourbillion of the student’s voices. He was there, just late.
"Ah!... the new girl. She really is hot." Edward caught, distracted, the thought of one of the classes’ boys and looked up to find a girl, a brunette and delicately framed girl, standing at the class door and searching for a place to seat. Smiling for himself at the thoughts of the student’s, now all focused on the girl, Edward curiously glanced toward Bella Swan and curiously glanced toward her. Well, he really had to admit: the male excitement toward the brunette girl wasn’t exaggerated. Indeed, there was something really beautiful within her, even thought he couldn’t quite put the finger on it.
Adverting his gaze from the girl quickly, it wasn't difficult for Edward to understand what would happen next. Since his table was the only one with an empty seat, it was natural she would have to seat there. Automatically, he cleared the side of the desk that was going to be hers, and organized his books into a pile not looking up to see her moving in his direction.
He was going to be polite, that was his plan, but show her as interest as he would show to any other which meant, actually, none at all. It was just the easy way to deal, making them choose to be away from him and from his inhuman nature. No matter how curious he was about her, that was his plan... or at least was, until Bella Swan walked into the flow of the heated air and her scent hit him like a battering ram, taking him completely by surprise.
Immediately, his body froze and Edward forced himself to not breath. Every step she would take closer was a tormenting echo for him, a second closer to disaster, an excruciating pain and an unbearable burning on his throat.
The monster inside him, more than never was awake and Edward wasn't sure if he could control him at all. There was no room full of whiteness’s, no room full of innocent people. It was there, on his place, simply a predator...a vampire. And Bella Swan happened just to have the sweetest scent he had smelled in his entire existence.
Did Alice know about this? How couldn’t she had warned him about that?... I’m going to kill Alice. Edward grunted for himself as he felt the girl seating beside him and tried to hold on the monster inside him. If that wasn't hell, being there side by side with her, then it surely was close enough.

She’d assumed that everything would be exactly the same, and that no one would really stare at her. And she certainly didn’t expect anything strange to happen when she sat next to Edward Cullen. Boy was she wrong. She didn’t notice anything at first, busy getting out all the things she’d need for the class. Then she’d kept her eyes glued to her notebook, not wanting to know if anyone was still looking at her. It wasn’t until she glanced up at Edward again that she realized something was off.
He was almost completely frozen, like a statue. And he was looking at her as if she were the most horrible, despicable person on earth. Her eyes widened a little, and she quickly looked back down at her notebook. As usual, her face turned a deep shade of red. No one seemed to notice, though, and she was thankful for that. Suddenly Mr. Banner walked in and started class. It was difficult for her to focus. She could barely process anything the man was saying. All she could think about was Edward staring at her. What had she done to offend him? She thought back to when she’d walked in the door. Maybe he hadn’t wanted anyone to sit beside him.
But it was the only seat open. And she didn’t know anyone who would get so angry over a chair. It was completely irrational. That couldn’t possibly be it. She finally got up the courage to look at him again, and he was still staring at her. She shifted away from him and tried to avoid looking at him again. Bella felt sick, and considered excusing herself from the class. But why should she have to leave? He was the one who was acting so strangely. He should have been the one to leave. She hadn’t said one word to the guy! He couldn’t possibly hate her already. He didn’t even know her. It was absolutely unfair.
And here she had been hoping that nothing would have changed. This was a huge change. Would she really have to go through this the entire year? Maybe she could talk to Mr. Banner and switch seats with someone else, someone he didn’t hate sitting beside. She tried to focus on the class. It would be over soon, and then she would never have to deal with this again. To her knowledge, this was the only class she had with Edward besides lunch, and she didn’t sit with him at lunch. She’d been sitting with some of her new friends like Jessica and Angela. Although it had been nice to sit with Alice. She wasn’t as shallow, and she had been very welcoming.
Bella shook her head slightly. She needed to focus, or she might miss something important. She decided the best she could do was ignore Edward, and hope that he’d stop eventually.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
AND THERE IS NO ONE THERE DO DRY YOUR TEARSi could hold you for a million years, to make you feel my love. - - - - - - - - As the time passed by and Edward tried to distract himself contemplating the oddness of his inner struggling, he couldn’t help but clinch his fists strongly with despair. What was wrong with Alice? How could she had seen that coming and forgot to tell me? Edward couldn’t help but wonder, irritated, as impatiently he tried to ignore the sweet and tempting presence of Bella Swan beside him. There were no plausible explanation, no excuse for such behaviour, no forgiveness unless... she hadn’t ever seen that significant part of his present situation coming. In fact, truth to be told, that was indeed quite possible.
Sighing rather hopelessly, It was for the first time in minutes that Edward realized surprised he was looking toward Bella and caught the glimpse of her brown eyes looking away from him quickly. Wishing he could simply vanish away, run away from the class quickly not caring for the consequences and posterior explanation, the vampire did had any other choice but look away from the girl and dig himself in his seat, his eyes fiercely closed, and breathe now completely frozen, his fingers impatiently tapping the surface of the desk. He knew he shouldn’t stop breathe, he knew that wasn’t a wise resolution to help keep his ‘human’ cover, but the circumstances demanded that. And to simplify the equation, it was either that or him taking the risk of being overwhelmed by her scent and allow the monster lurking inside him to rip away her throat.
“Mr Cullen, is there any problem?” The voice of Mr. Banner brought him back to the present, making Edward look up at the Biology’s Professor slightly surprised by the interruption that observed him closely.
“No sir, everything is completely fine” Edward lied quickly, looking back in the eyes at the professor as he quickly scattered among the tutors thoughts.
It wasn’t that difficult to find the reason of the Professor’s question as apparently its source was simply motivated by the oddness of his present behaviour. Returning to his frozen and rigid position as the professor turned his back and continued the lesson, Edward couldn’t help but wonder if Bella too was perturbed by his more than probably not welcoming or friendly actions and against his good judgement tried to scatter her thoughts among the crow of the others that belonged to the other students. Little did he know, though, that for him there was nothing else but a deep and torturing silence behind Miss Swan’s mysterious thoughts.
Trying again to reach her thoughts and failing miserably, Edward felt his already static body to freeze completely on his seat as he found the invisible barrier between him and Bella’s mind. Great, first it was her irresistible scent taunting him, tempting his most basic and animal instincts, and now he couldn’t read her! What else could go wrong on that day? That wasn’t definitely on his plans, nothing of that was as matter of fact on his plans when he had decided to step inside that stupid class on that afternoon... Glaring at his desk, irritated with the strange symmetry and irony of fate, Edward was just glad of one single thing: good thing he couldn’t drag whole with his eyes, or else by now that desk would have a whole of the size of the Mississippi.

Every few minutes, she would glance over at Edward. He continued to stare at her as if she were the most horrible thing in existence, and each time, she would quickly look away and blush. Her mind was racing as class went on. She wanted to figure out what had happened in the last few minutes that could make him hate her so much. Why was this happening to her? Why couldn't he take his anger out on someone else? The longer the class went on, the angrier she got. How dare he come in and be so rude toward her? She was not going to accept this. She fully intended to give Edward a piece of her mind after class.
She wanted to know what was going on, and she wouldn't take no for an answer. He had no idea how stubborn she could be. He would regret ever glaring at her. Bella tried to focus on what Mr. Banner was saying, and began taking notes again. She wasn't able to completely forget that he was staring at her, but she wasn't worrying for the moment. Suddenly Mr. Banner stopped talking, and she looked up, confused. He was walking over to their table. Great, now what had she done? He looked over at Edward. "Mr. Cullen, is there any problem?" Bella almost rolled her eyes. I'll say there's a problem, she thought. She was then shocked even more by Edward's answer.
“No sir, everything is completely fine.” At that, Bella looked at him incredulously. Fine? How could he possibly think everything was fine? She almost spoke up, but instead held her tongue. It would just be another thing to bring up in her conversation with Edward. Class seemed to drag on forever, and she didn't know how much more of this she could take. Finally, the bell rang. She packed up her things and then turned to him. She tried to look menacing as she spoke. "Can I talk to you for a minute, Edward?" She waited for his answer, still angrier than she'd ever been. Funny, she'd never been a really violent person, but given the chance, she probably would have punched Edward. Although, knowing her, she would end up hurting herself in the process.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
AND THERE IS NO ONE THERE DO DRY YOUR TEARSi could hold you for a million years, to make you feel my love. - - - - - - - - As Mr. Banner continued with the class, resuming the information about the cellular cycle and cellular compounds, all that Edward Cullen could think about was to run. Run away from that classroom, that seat… away from the strong scent right beside himself, even away from Forks if that was necessary. He knew his family wouldn’t be particularly ecstatic about that idea, Esme would probably be heartbroken for such decision, but what other options could he have left? When a barely hour of class was already driving nuts, how could he risk getting any closer to school or to the girl standing right beside him? He simply couldn’t, that was his ultimate resolution, but he couldn’t either leave the class abruptly to never return, could he? Pondering his options, his now fully black iris counting down the endless minutes on the classroom’s clock, Edward turned his head to stare outside and resisted the urge to breathe. Perhaps he could leave and excuse himself, saying he wasn’t feeling that well. That seemed plausible and reasonable and he would more than probably have used that if it wasn’t for the sudden and more than welcomed liberation sound of the school bell. In seconds, he gather the few remains he had on the desk and placed them quickly inside his bag, ready to jump of his seat and leave behind the class and the taunting scent before anyone else, but not even on that fate seemed to be on his side. Before he could actually walk outside the class as humanly fast as possible, Bella Swan barred his way, her warm brown eyes upon him, and spoke so much for his surprise. That girl would have to be mental. Couldn’t she seen in the amount of danger she was in? Couldn’t she simply let him go and make things a little easier for him? No, apparently not. She had to decide to talk with him now. Doing his best to keep his breathe frozen as he glanced toward the fragile girl and spotted what seemed to be a really bad attempt of menacing look, Edward couldn’t help but be slightly amazed with her. It was obvious she had noticed his strange behavior, the fury behind her eyes couldn’t be mistaken, yet here she was attempting to confront him. She would have to be either very brave or really crazy to attempt talking with him that way.
No matter, though, how little scared he was of her, that didn’t meant he could leave without at least answering. Besides, it wasn’t her fault her scent was so… strong. So, even though he knew the pain the risk and the pain he would feel if he would allow him to speak and breathe, Edward forced himself to gaze at her neutrally and spoke. “I’m not feeling particularly well, do you think that can be appointed to another time?” He finally replied her, trying to ignore the crescent burn on his throat and looking away from her, in hope he could find some way to escape quickly

When she asked to speak to him, she tried to keep her voice down so that she wouldn’t make a scene. That would get her more attention than she wanted. In fact, talking to Edward Cullen would probably be a bad idea. She saw at least two people staring at them, and she tried to block them out. As she looked up at Edward, she could tell he was surprised. That was certainly better than the glare he’d had for her the entire class.
He glanced at her then looked around. Bella wondered why he refused to look her in the eye, but she had more important things to talk to him about. Finally, he spoke up. “I’m not feeling particularly well, do you think that can be appointed to another time?” At that, Bella almost felt bad. If he really was feeling sick, he should be going home. But she needed answers, and she couldn’t let him get away. She shook her head. “It can’t really wait. But we can walk and talk,” she said, turning to walk to her last class of the day: gym.
Normally, she would have been thinking about how horrible it was going to be, but she was too focused on Edward. She glanced over her shoulder, and thankfully, he was still following her, although he kept a little distance between them. She looked ahead again and grit her teeth. Oh, she would be talking to him alright. When she reached the building she wanted, she stopped and turned to him. She looked up at him again, and this time she wasn’t glaring. She figured she must have seemed crazy to him. She sighed and looked away for a moment. Her courage was fading fast, and she needed to say something before she lost her nerve.
“Why do you hate me so much? What did I do?” She waited for his answer, not caring if she was late. She would much rather talk to him than face the horrors of gym.
