I'MFEELINGROUGH FORGET ABOUT OUR MOTHERS AND OUR FRIENDS WE'REFATEDTOPRETEND • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Alice loved being with her family, but that doesn’t mean she always had to follow them around. It was sunny that day in Forks, which meant that the Cullens should stay home while the whole school thinks that they went out on a camping trip. Alice was always able to warn them about the weather but at the last minute told them that they would be perfectly fine because it would be cloudy by the time they’re in school. Everybody believed in her of course, but the boys already had plans. They we’re going to have little hunt all by themselves and have a boy’s day out. Meanwhile, Rosalie decided to just skip school because she thought there was no point in going if they’re going to be absent. But Alice was resolved to going to school even if she was alone. She didn’t mind being around humans, and with no one around in the house, she’d rather go to school and listen and be amused with the humans. She asked permission to use Edward car and so she drove the silver Volvo to Forks high school.
She was getting excited as she parked the car in the school’s parking lot. It was the first time she went to school without her so-called-adoptive brothers and sister. It was the first time a Cullen went to school alone. True enough, the sun was already hidden beneath the clouds. As she went out the car, she noticed a new vehicle in the parking lot. It was a red truck. A bit old and dusty. Alice didn’t have to notice every car in the school to know that this was a new one because it really stood out. She saw some students staring at it. Some with a smirk on their faces.
She heard one of them mention, “It must be the new girl’s”
“You mean Chief Swan’s daughter?” another one said. “Isabella right?”
It was a good thing then, that Alice had gone to school, otherwise she would’ve missed the first day of the ‘new girl’. It was rare that Forks high had a new student and everyone must be affected by her appearance one way or another. Alice proceeded in class with a smile on her face, knowing she was going to meet the new girl, like the way she saw it in her vision. As she sat in one of her classes however, she got bored. It was strange not having the other vampires by her side. Finally, when the bell rang for lunch, Alice got her bag and sprang to her feet and went to the cafeteria. She had a good feeling about meeting the new girl though she didn’t know why. Even though she didn’t need to eat, she went in line in the cafeteria as usual. She still needed to keep up with their façade. After ordering a burger and soda and paying, she brought her tray and was headed to their usual table and was about to sit down.

Bella walked into Forks High School, a little queasy. Starting at a new school was bad enough, but everyone somehow already knew her. They had been whispering behind her back all morning. Only a few people talked to her, and even then, the conversations didn't last long. They obviously didn't want to be seen with her and ruin their reputation. She went through her classes in a daze. She'd already read the books assigned for english, and she was ahead in math and biology. Still, she wanted to get her mind off of people talking about her, so she took notes and looked through the material anyway. It took all of her willpower not to run out and drive home. She'd chosen to go here, and now she was going to stick with it.
In the class right before lunch, Bella met a few people who weren't worried about reputations. They talked to her the whole class, and she was thankful that a few of them were nice. She was invited to eat lunch with them, but when she reached the cafeteria, she'd lost them in the crowd. Sighing, she got into the lunch line and picked out a few things. She was feeling too sick to actually eat anything right now, but she didn't want anyone to think she was one of those girls with eating disorders. She wanted to at least look normal. One of the lunch ladies talked to her briefly, and called her Isabella. She scowled at the name. It was horrible, and Bella fit her so much better.
When she had her lunch in her hands, she found an empty table near the exit so she could leave as soon as the next bell rang. As she sat there, she could feel the stares burning into the back of her head. Her face started to turn red, almost like a tomato. This was probably the worst day ever. She'd never had this much trouble in Phoenix. The school was much bigger, so she could be a wallflower and no one would notice. Bella put her head down slightly so her hair covered her face. She took a few bites of her food and then sighed, pushing the tray away. She couldn't eat now. She was way too nervous. It shouldn't have mattered what anyone here thought, but she apparently had expectations to live up to. The burning gazes stopped after a few minutes, and she lifted her head.
Everyone was now immersed in their own conversations and friends. Bella's plain brown eyes landed on another girl sitting by herself, and she tried to keep her jaw from dropping. This girl was impossibly beautiful. Her skin was white as paper, and her hair was short, black and spiked up at the ends. She dressed as though she'd just walked off of a runway. She was so small too. Bella stared at her until she looked up, and then looked back down at her table. Great, now every single person would think she was a freak.

I'MFEELINGROUGH FORGET ABOUT OUR MOTHERS AND OUR FRIENDS WE'REFATEDTOPRETEND • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Alice reached their table – which was now going to be empty except for her – in a dance-like manner, dropped her tray on it, pulled up a chair and sat down. She stared at her burger for a long time, trying to decide whether or not to take a bite. It would be disgusting, but there’s no point in buying food to blend in if she wasn’t going to eat it. She finally settled in taking the soda and taking a few gulps, holding the bottle to her lips longer than necessary so that it would seem like she drank more than she actually did. She put down the bottle and smiled at herself for paying too much attention to what she was doing. It’s not like the other students had there eyes on her, waiting for her to make a mistake that would reveal what she was. Just to amuse herself, she used her ability to ‘see’ if anyone was going to look. She did it all the time with her siblings when they we’re acting crazier than usual, to warn them when someone was about to look. And this time, someone was. It was the new girl. After a few seconds, the new girl did look at Alice and the latter allowed her to ogle her before finally looking up at her. The brown eyed girl flushed and looked back down. Suppressing a smile, Alice stared back down at her lunch tray.
It felt weird to sit down alone in the cafeteria. Nobody was reading her mind. No one was holding her hand while holding his breath as well. The person teasing everyone was not present while the cranky, beautiful princess who just ignored him wasn’t there too. Although they weren’t exactly popular in the school, someone was bound to notice that their table was only occupied by one of the ‘weirdoes’. What they know was that whenever the Cullens were absent, they were all at this camping trip, so they would just probably assume that Alice decided not to go. Alice felt like a new girl in school: with no one to hang around, people whispering behind their backs, except this time every kid in school don’t think she was a freak. They already knew how much of a freak she was. Suddenly she felt bad for the Isabella girl. Bella that is, since Alice could foretell that she would correct her immediately if she called her by her first name.
Alice didn’t need Edward to tell her what the girl was thinking or Jasper to tell her how the girl was feeling. She knew how a person would feel in a situation like hers. Alice looked directly at her and waited for her to look back up so that she could smile at her. The transfer student probably didn’t notice the guys who were stealing looks at her, contemplating about approaching her. They were a bit shy though, unlike the other students who just whispered behind her back. The guys were making sure she wouldn’t catch them staring at her.

Bella kept her eyes on the other girl as long as possible. The girl stared into space for a moment, almost distant, before lifting her head. When Bella put hers down, she could feel her staring. She peeked out from under her thick brown hair, and the girl almost looked as if she were smiling. Bella frowned. There was something very different about this particular girl. She didn’t seem to be avoiding her. She looked almost lonely, as if there should have been more people with her. Bella made a note to ask one of her new friends about the girl. Bella glanced around again, and people were now focused on the other lone person in the cafeteria. It felt somewhat nice not to have attention on you all the time. Maybe she wasn’t the only weird outcast.
It almost made her feel better. Almost. She could still feel the stare on her, and it hadn’t gone away like before. She lifted her head again and quickly glanced over in the direction the other girl had been in. She was staring at Bella, and this time a smile did appear on her face. Bella felt herself smile back involuntarily, and she turned her head in another direction. Every other table was packed, and they were both alone. So maybe they should sit together. It wasn’t the best idea in the world. The girl might not have wanted any company. She could tell Bella to go jump off a cliff. But somehow she didn’t get that vibe. This girl was nice. Bella sighed and bit her lip. There was no going back once she got up. Come on, Bella. Don’t be a coward, she scolded herself.
Taking a deep breath, she grabbed her tray and stood up. She pushed her chair in, and then turned. She made her way to the table slowly and came to a stop about a foot away. For a moment, she didn’t say anything, but then she realized she must have looked like an idiot. She cleared her throat and tried. “Um…h-hi. I’m sorry if I’m bothering you…” she trailed off, feeling her face change color again. “Can I just…would it be okay if I sat here?” she asked, tightening her grip on her tray. Her knuckles were almost as white as the girl in front of her. The silence stretched for a minute or two, and she shifted her weight on her feet. If she kept standing here like this, people would definitely talk. Maybe even make fun of her after this period.
She didn’t think she could handle a few more hours here if that happened. Maybe it wasn’t too late for her to leave. She could say she was sick(which wouldn’t really be a lie) and then be excused. Yes, that would work.

I'MFEELINGROUGH FORGET ABOUT OUR MOTHERS AND OUR FRIENDS WE'REFATEDTOPRETEND • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Still staring at the girl, Alice tried to see what she was going to do. She found out that the interesting brown-eyed girl was trying to decide whether or not to approach her and ask to sit with her. She was probably feeling lonely and found Alice to be the only girl she could come up to since all the other tables were filled and the students occupying them didn’t look like they could use one more companion. Finally, the girl stood and walked up towards Alice, clutching her tray tightly in her hands as she made her way through the crowd. Alice admired her courage. Most students felt a scary vibe from the Cullens that made them stay away but Isabella was walking right up to her. Maybe she hadn’t heard the rumors about them yet, or maybe Alice just looked so innocent by herself, unlike when she was surrounded by her mysterious, intimidating brothers and snobbish sister.
Alice could see the girl’s cheeks redden as she talked to her, stuttering slightly. Even though she had foreseen this, Alice was still surprised to be approached by a human in school. Never had she even sat with anybody else besides her siblings. She wondered how they would react to this encounter. They leave her in school for one day and already she was jeopardizing their secret. Alice too, was cautious of every choice she made but unlike the other Cullens, when she feels that there there’s nothing wrong about what she’s doing, or when she knows that there’s nothing to worry about, then she goes for it.
Alice beamed at the girl standing in front of her and without even showing the slightest of hesitations, replied, ”Of course! I’m not usually alone in this table and I could use some company.” She pulled out a chair for the girl and introduced herself. “I’m Alice Cullen by the way.” She didn’t bother to say what most of the others have been telling the girl all day long: you must be the new girl.’ That was obvious enough..
