The lunch room was blustering of the sounds of shouting and laughter coming from the student body of Fork’s High School. Jasper was as usual sitting at the table that seemed to be reserved for the Cullen siblings. The muscles in his face flexed slightly as he clenched his teeth together as he picked at the human food that was before him. He didn’t see why he needed to get a tray of food whenever it was going to get either thrown away or ground to bits between his fingers. Although they were told that they had to try and fit in. So they were required to get props during lunch. Yet his idea of lunch would be one of the many young humans surrounding him. He groaned slightly as he felt his venom fill his mouth and burn his throat at his thoughts.
Sighing he tried to get his thoughts away from his thirst. So he tasted the atmosphere around him. His siblings seemed to be as bored as he was during this hour. Ok all of them except Emmett and Rose were too busy lusting at each other. He grimaced slightly at the two of them before turning his topaz hues over to his other brother Edward. As usual his gaze was directed towards the human girl Bella. The thought of the human girl brought the burn back to his throat. He was told by his siblings that she did smell nice, however to Jasper every human smelt the same. Mouth watering delicious. He groaned once again at his weak ability to ignore his thirst. He scooted his chair closer to Alice as he rested his elbows on the back of his chair. He moved his leg slightly so that his knee was touching the inside of Alice’s leg the small contact instantly brought him a small amount of comfort.
However the contact didn’t last as the bell rang shortly afterwards. He was thinking of skipping the rest of the day and spending it out in the open air away from their scents, however he wanted to prove that he could control himself. So once the cafeteria was empty the Cullen siblings finally stood and began to go their separate ways. Time seemed to fly by quickly as the day was close to an end. Jasper found himself in his Gym class. Today it seemed that they would be doing something different. They were going to be combining classes with the other gym class. They would be partnering up with someone from the different class and working together. This caused Jasper to groan inwardly. He didn’t want to have to work with anyone. He liked being by himself in his class, no one bothered him and everyone made sure to stay away.
The Coach explained everything to them. They would team up with another class member for partner teamwork. First they would be required to spend ten minutes learning about each other. Five minutes for each partner. Then they would work together in a course of multiple exercise/tasks. Once they were dismissed Jasper headed towards the locker room were he quickly changed into his gym uniform before making his way back into the gymnasium. Slowly one by one everyone choose their partners till there was only one person left without a partner.

There was a revolution taking place. Right inside her active stomach, she could feel it protesting and grunting annoyed and, honestly, she couldn’t blame him. She had missed lunch, completely, and yet she wouldn’t want to blame anyone for it, the only responsible was herself. She just didn’t wanted to go at the cafeteria and fell the oddly and curious stares on her, even knowing perhaps her only and really friend on the small and rainy town of Forks was there, but not even around Bella things would be easier. Those kids really did too many questions, and honestly Eve wasn’t such ha good liar as she wanted to… So the best strategy was avoiding them.
Avoiding their questions, try her best to be the most uninteresting and irrelevant person around and hope the curiosity of being a newcomer would decrease. That was for the better, it really was. If Evelyn would be completely honest for herself, they really should keep their distance from her. She was dangerous, not probably on the same way she knew she was supposed to be, but because her simply existence was a threat for everyone and potentially an danger magnet for those around her, but hopefully her stay on Forks would as calm, peaceful and discrete as the previous ones on other places over the globe.
Evelyn started walking toward the gym and took a deep breath as she felt her stomach ache and grunt loudly. However, she forced herself to close her eyes and ignore it. Food, it was loudly demanding for food. Normal human, solid and consistent food… Another ironic thing about herself. It was expected that someone, like her, with a father liker her, someone like her was probably supposed to drink human blood, a concept she had learn to find quite repulsive and that, hopefully, she had found a very good alternative and centered her diet round simple human food. And it was really good; chocolate was on her top list, actually, no matter how her grandmother would complain with that.
One faint smile crossed her lips as she remembered her grandmother’s opinion about her sugar rich diet, but it vanished quickly as she realized she had finally reached the gym and feared the other students would take her from some crazy and loony girl. Biting her lip nervously, she waited quietly the other students would arrive and, then, that the professor would start talking and explaining his plans for the day’s lesson… And what a plans!
It was just...perfect. Two classes would be together, like if it wasn’t already enough her own to stare at her, and they would paired up with students form the other class. If Evelyn wasn’t so tense, she would definitely start laughing hysterically. Didn’t she have already many complicated things on her strange and half-human life? Apparently not, that was how it seemed. The blond girl sighed loudly and stood there, quiet and silent until she saw the other students left change themselves and came again to pair up. There was good thing about skipping lunch: it would give you a lot of free time where you could already change yourself discreetly…
As the students started to arrive and pair up, she closed her eyes and prayed. Prayed there wasn’t anyone to team up with her… and when she opened again her eyes and saw everyone already paired, one bright smile flashed across her face. It was perfect, her personal miracle and… It was too good to be true. As she prepared herself to turn around and tell the professor she hadn’t any pair, she realized for the first time she wasn’t the only one left alone… One boy, probably older than her, with pale skin and blond hair, and she felt her hope vanish and walked toward him. After all there was going to be a pair for her...
“Hi…” She managed to say once she was closer to him. Why couldn’t her brain work a better thing to say on that moment?” It looks like, then, we are the only left, isn’t it?” Eve added and controlled teh urge to bit her tongue. No, apparently her brain simply wasn’t working.

Jasper watched as one by one all of his fellow class mates seemed to find themselves partners. All the other students all seemed to stray away form him. Which was fine by all means. If he didn’t have to work with anyone then perhaps he would be able to sit out and not have to worry about being so close to one of the humans. Just as it seemed that he would be spared of performing in the ridiculous elective known as gym there was one person left. Of course Jasper never seemed to get a break. No there just had to be one human girl left that didn’t have a partner. Perhaps if he stood still enough she wouldn’t notice he was there and he could slip off into the locker room and hide out till the end of the hour.
Once again it seemed that someone was out to get him. The human girl appeared to be just as anxious as he was to not have a partner. However she had noticed that he too was partner less. He couldn’t help but knit his brows together slightly as he tasted the emotions coming from her. She had been thrilled before whenever she realized that she didn’t have a partner. Now it seemed as if she were walking to her death, so to speak of course. Jasper remained where he stood with his back straight, shoulders squared and his arms folded behind him as the girl made her way over towards him.
He casted his gaze over to her and took in her appearance. She skin tone was light, almost as light as his own however held some colored tint to it. Perhaps she and Isabella Swann shared the same skin condition for rejecting sunlight. In fact if it wasn’t for her light blue eyes he would have thought her a Vampire. Her hair was almost as long as Rosalie’s and blond in color. He would consider her a very attractive human, which some of the human males did find her attractive. However no one compared to his Alice.
He subconsciously stiffened as the human girl came to a stop next to him. The smell of her blood was extremely sweet. However as sweet as it smelt for some reason he didn’t find himself wanting to drain her of her life. This of course confused him greatly. For a moment he thought perhaps he wasn’t as thirsty. So pretending to crack his neck he tilted his head slightly to the other side towards the direction of another pair of students and took a deep inhale of breath. Nope he was still thirsty. In fact his thirst hit him like a ton of bricks before turning slightly back to the female before him. Not trusting himself to speak at first he simply nodded his head lightly in response to her first statement. A simple ‘Hi’.
Swallowing the venom that was pooling in his mouth he figured he should at least say something back as she began to stutter with her words. Was she nervous about being paired up with him? The instincts of the other humans were telling them to always stay away from the Cullen’s. Perhaps she was scared of him. Or was it that she was like the other female students and hoping that he would leave Alice. “Hello…” ok that didn’t seem too bad. He wasn’t lunging forward to attack her. “….it would appear to be that way.” He said lightly as he gave a very quick and a very small smile to her.
Before he could say anything else the Coach’s cleared their throats at the same time to get their attentions. However it appeared that the students had better ideas as they ignored their teachers. It took the sound of a whistle echoing off of the walls to get their attentions. At the sound of the whistle Jasper flinched back slightly. It had been a quick movement that the other students didn’t seem to notice it. “Alright, now that we’ve been partnered up split off into your groups and talk about yourselves, your strength and weakness’s. After that we’ll be doing a bunch of activities were you will have to work together in order to beat the other teams.” Coach Clapp said before waving his hand in the air dismissing them to go off and talk to their respective partners.

It were like endless years, those small seconds Evelyn took until she finally had been able to reach the boy that, irony of the fate or not, was going to be her partner on that gym class, and yet it had been enough for the small girl notice the strange behavior of him. Was it her simple impression, or did he really look like one of those military statues, unmoving and almost like if he was frozen, yet in a rather unusual gentlemanly way with his arms folded behind his back and Evelyn couldn’t decide if she should take that as a good or a bad sign, actually.
Evelyn didn’t want to become any focus of attention on the small and peaceful town of Forks, more than necessary obviously, and things weren’t starting precisely the way she wanted too. She had made a good acquaintance, something she honestly didn’t mind at all, but that girl was more shinny than any possible or existing spotlight, and she didn’t wanted the attentions on her to being turned toward her eventually. She had already too much to concern with than having to keep up good lies to hide her true identity, so she wasn’t definitely in position to being able to deal with more trouble.
It only took a few seconds for Evelyn to notice the deep frown of concentration on her face, and as soon as she noticed it, the girl dismissed it replacing it with a simple and blank expression instead and allowing herself to take a more careful look at the older boy that was going to be her partner on that class. She had later described him as pale, but pale wasn’t an enough descriptive word for his white and, more oddly, marble white skin. He was even paler than her, and that was a difficult thing in someone due to her skin condition, but that wasn’t the only different thing about him. Now, comparing him to the other students around she had even to admit he was strangely beautiful, just like one of these movie stars of Hollywood, and outshining undeniably her irrelevant and uninteresting figure.
It was something really good, like his figure belonged to one of those Greek statues, and yet he was so incredibly alive, but above everything what really was more impressive was his eyes color. It wasn’t a color she was used to see, that gold and caramel mixture at the same time soothing yet so confusingly perplexing… Just like his momentary silence. Evie couldn’t avoid but be puzzled by his vague expression, like if he was deeply absorbed by any thoughts. Could it be that he too wasn’t particularly pleaded with the pairing? She couldn’t find a clear answer, but it it that was true she wouldn't mind. after all, she wouldn't blame anyone that would feel the need to be far away from her, because it was definitly the most reasonable thing to do actually...
“Hello... it would appear to be that way.”
The quiet voice startled her and, once again, Evelyn couldn’t avoid but look up confused for brief seconds. She was sure, positive actually, that he wasn’t going to answer. He seemed so silently quiet that, for brief moments, she had even considered the possibility he was going to stay there completely mute, and yet it had happened in such an evident southern accent, polite and so lightly, that it was completely impossible to ignore his unique and rather charming voice that had left her with nothing else to say or do beside her agreement nod.
It was a relief the professor had chosen to start speaking and giving new instructions, or else Evelyn feared they would both fall in an awkward silence, and so the girl listened to him more heartlessly than it even was needed even when a disbelief look flashed on her face at his words. They were supposed to tell their strengths and weaknesses? Meet each other?... Was the professor then going to ask them to take a tea together? That definitely didn’t look like a gym class, at the exception, of course, of the mentioned activities later.
Evelyn tried her best to not laugh bitterly as the professor finished her speech and all the other students started to talk with each other. What she was supposed to tell him? Hey, I’m a half-vampire and practically indestructible, so yeah... relax we had this won already! Well, the probably scared look on the boy’s face would be priceless, but definitely it wasn’t an option for Evelyn. So, instead she tried to say the most reasonable thing on that moment, at least that part still was a priority, wasn’t it?
“Such interesting ideas these gym professors have nowadays… “She said smiling shortly, hoping it would make their forced talk less uncomfortable than it already seemed to be. “Well, I believe it is rather important I present myself first. My name is Evelyn Travis… “Evelyn paused and then focused her light blue eyes on his golden ones. “…And who are you?” She added, trying her best to keep a normal and natural friendly expression and hide her tension from her partner. There was not point into making it more difficult than it was already.

Jasper could not help but wonder why she was staring at him so intently. If was almost as if she was seeing right through him. As if she was seeing him for what he truly was. However that would have been impossible. Only another Vampire would be able to tell the difference between himself and the other humans around. Besides he really hadn’t done anything for the girl to suspect a thing about him. Perhaps he was just over reacting. Yes that had to be it, he was over reacting for nothing. He hadn’t done anything to give himself away. At least he hadn’t done anything yet. Which he hoped to keep it that way. He wanted to prove that he could stand being in school just as much as his siblings could.
Remaining still Jasper twisted his head from side to side as if he were imitating the act of cracking his neck to release any pressure being forced on the bones. Sure he really wouldn’t be cracking anything however it was a small enough movement for the humans to believe that he was normal. It was also a habit he had formed back in the Civil War whilst carrying heavy loads strapped to his shoulders and back. Back then he did have to crack his neck to realize it of the pressure building up. So many thoughts were going through his mind, and yet only a fraction of five seconds had passed by.
Returning his thoughts back to the present he realized that that the girl was staring at him. Taking in his features like so many other students before her had done. Yet none of them really paid much attention to his features. Their instincts always told them to leave him alone. Yet for some reason she wasn’t acting like the other humans. Bringing his eyes into focus from once again drifting away in his own thoughts his golden hues stared back at her light blues. Jasper arched a blond brow slightly wondering why she was taking in his appearance like this.
A small smirk quickly washed over his features slightly before disappearing just as quickly as it came. So the girl hadn’t been excepting him to say anything. He found it rather amusing that most humans thought him to be a mute because he chose not to speak. Had they known the true reason they would all probably be grateful that he didn’t speak often as his other siblings. It was only excepted to feel the girls confusion whenever he spoke to her after remaining as still has he had.
His attention was captured briefly by the Coach’s announcement as to what they were to be doing for the hour. Oh this seemed like it would be a fun hour. His gaze flickered sideways slightly to the girl next to him. Why would she feel relief at the Coach making an announcement? Surely she couldn’t be excited about what they were about to do. He couldn’t help the small smirk that spread once again over his features at the feel of sarcasm that seemed to spread throughout her body. She was turning out to be a rather interesting human girl. Perhaps learning a little bit about her wouldn’t be so bad.
However much like what was running through her mind was going through Jasper’s. Just not in quite the same fashion. He knew that if he were to tell the girl he were a Vampire she would probably laugh at him, tell him that he had lost his mind, and then tell the entire student body. Then of course Jasper would be force to kill the girl and perhaps the entire student body. Although he could always revert back to the silent statue that everyone thought him to be. Yes that was always the option. However he at least owed her a little bit. Just his name. Yes that was as far as he would go.
Once again Jasper was brought from his thoughts by the sound of her voice. He slowly nodded his head lightly. Or at least for Jasper it was slow, had he nodded his head at his level it would probably have seemed like he hadn’t moved it at all. Once again he was curious by her feelings. She was feeling Hope. But for what? “It’s a pleasure to meet you Eveyln. My name is Jasper Hale.” He said lightly before smirking softly. “Why are you so tensed?” He asked lightly arching a brow. “You look tense is what I meant to say…are you afraid of me? Or are you not happy to be my partner?”

Confusion wasn’t, definitely, one of those feelings Evelyn was used to experiment on a daily basis, and so it was rather difficult for the girl to hide her thoughtful frown from her mysterious partner standing right beside her. He surely must have already noticed her lost expression, so why would she try to hide it now? Apparently, she couldn’t keep perfectly in check her feelings away from her facial expression but she still could try to achieve it, right? Biting her lower lip softly, Evelyn controlled the urge to look at her feet and kept staring at the boy standing beside her.
He definitely wasn’t like any other boy she had saw around on that school. Actually, he wasn’t like any other boy she had seen in any other school she had went to... And they were already quite a few, even in different countries. So, Evelyn was trying to figure out what was different on him, yet she still couldn’t find anything. Her head was empty of ideas and there wasn't any explainable reason why she had a strange curiosity about him. Probably it was only because he was intriguing, not only by his exceptional good looks, but also because of his unusually good manners despite his quiet personality.
Being quiet wasn’t, actually, something that would bother Evelyn with all the honesty. Words were important, she knew that, but many times they weren’t simply enough. All the boys, older or younger than her, never seemed to be quiet, or at least not that quiet like this one. Some around her age would, eventually, try to chat her up, something that she found completely annoying and, definitely, something that Evelyn wasn’t particularly willing to. Yet, he wasn’t behaving like that. Not that she complained about it, she was quite glad he wasn’t acting that way honestly, but it was unexpected for her and it would only make her believe even more he was quite different from the normal type of boys she had meet.
She had already seen, for a small couple of seconds though, his body tensioning quietly just to return back at the normal in less than seconds. Was it because of her? Was she making him uncomfortable or it was only her impression? She had been wondering about already a couple of minutes, but if he was perturbed by her then why she could almost bet she had seen him smirking quickly twice? It didn’t make the slightest sense and, for the first time, it was when Evelyn considered another possibility she hadn’t even pondered yet: what if he too was been studying her? And not in a physical way, because he had already surely done that, but more like trying to picturing her personality, her true self… the part of her nature that was almost always well hidden from the world around her.
Instinctively, her body tensed for some brief seconds as she pondered her worst fears… The fear of being caught, having to move away again and cleaning up her mess. But that was impossible, there was no way he could get the slightest clue about of what she was, and so she allowed her body to relax or, to be more honest, she forced herself to relax using the fact the boy had spoke to focus on his words and use it to diminish her tension.
And it worked, not on the way she was expected though, but it actually worked when he presented himself back. His name was rather unique, and as she listened him presenting himself Evelyn couldn’t avoid but feel some pieces of the complex puzzle fit and make some sense.. That name wasn’t strange for her, not strange at all actually. She had heard about him and his brothers and parents… his family. The Cullens, she could remember now having some people talking about them, but yet it wasn’t something that had interested her particularly on that day, but now having meet one it seemed like if those feelings were really absurd.
But before Evelyn could go further on her thoughts, he continued talking and she did her best to listen to him until he finished and she stood staring at him shocked. Well, she was a little tense, but it wasn’t that big such of a deal he had been able to see that, it was more his following statement and questions that made the girl stare at him amazed and at the verge of starting laughing hysterically.
Ok, she knew it was a fair question and she did know, by the way people talked, many students were afraid of the Cullens, but why would that bother her? Not being able to hold on her chuckle, Evelyn found herself couching lightly trying to hide her somehow musical laugher and smiling amused. If there was someone that should be afraid was him of her, not the opposite. After all, she was typically half of a very dangerous and thirsty mythical creature…
“Afraid? Why should I be afraid of you? It isn’t like if you’re going to bite me or something. “Evelyn stated, smiling. “ So no, I’m not afraid neither unhappy, but indeed I’m tense. New schools are always difficult to get used to, and I don’t like to call others attentions.” The girl added truthfully, shrugging her shoulders. A little of truth wouldn’t hurt anyone, so as long as it wouldn’t bring her any trouble why couldn’t she be fairly honest with Jasper? “So we are supposed to tell our weaknesses, right? Does skipping lunch counts?”

There weren’t many things that sparked Jasper’s curiosity. In fact he was pretty sure that after living his first sixty years as an immortal nothing would ever spark his curiosity. He had been proven wrong twice. The first time was whenever he had first met with Alice and her golden hues. The second of course was whenever he joined the Cullen’s family. Yet it had been over fifty years since that time. He had simply just became bored with the humans around him whenever he wasn’t thinking of them as food. After all there really wasn’t anything interesting about them. They were always the same. However he did find it rather amusing to ‘study’ them. Their emotions told a lot about them. How one person would pretend to be friends with another yet deep inside hate them. Although Jasper wasn’t sure why, only Edward would be able to tell him why they would pretend such relations.
Yet this girl before him was for some reason unknown to him, sparking his curiosity. Never had he said so many words to a human before. Yes he spoke less than fifty words and yet it was most he had ever said to anyone outside of his family. It was feat in an of itself. For some reason he was wanting to know more about her. Something, perhaps his instincts were telling him that this Evelyn wasn’t the same as the other humans around him. Yet why she was different he couldn’t tell and which was way he was watching her so closely. He wished that Edward was in the class and would be able to tell him what was going through her mind. That is if he was still able to read minds.
Ah he cursed his Vampire mind for always wondering off so much. It was one of the many down falls for him. As a Vampire he was easily distracted as several things would always be running through his mind. And all these thoughts ran through his mind within a matter of seconds. So he didn’t have to feel bad about being lost in his thoughts. Only another Vampire would be able to tell if he was thinking about something or not. Humans didn’t have a sharp eye to catch little things like that. Although the next emotion that hit him was something that he was all too familiar with. Fear. She was fearing something. But again the question as what? Slowly he sent a wave of calm towards her.
Fear was the last thing he wanted to be around. It brought back way too many horrible memories that he wished he could just forget about. However knew that as hard as he might try he would never be able to forget his dark past. His shoulders tensed slightly as she started to laugh. Was she laughing at him? Had he said something to make her laugh? He quickly thought over everything he had said. Nope he hadn’t said anything remotely funny. Again humans were very confusing creatures. It was hard for him to believe that he was once a human being.
Jasper was about to open his mouth and ask what was so funny however Evelyn began to speak. That’s what she found so amusing? She thought that his statement of her being afraid of him was amusing. Oh if only she knew the truth as to what he truly was then yes, she would have been afraid of him. In fact she would probably try and get away as fast as she humanly could. Which wasn’t really fast at all. Humans moved so slow it was a pain to try and move just as slow as them. However what made his still heart freeze over was the statement following her question. Not only did his shoulders tense but so did his entire body. His jaw locked in place.
It was ironic at how close to the truth she had just came and yet did not seem to know the truth of her own words. If he bit her there were only two options left for her life. Either she became a vampire herself, or she would have to die. Jasper numbly nodded his head lightly as she mentioned that she was indeed tense. “I’ve been to a few new schools myself in the past.” He stated lightly as he adverted his gaze away from her. His body was still tense from her previous statement.
The thought of quickly leaving the gym crossed his mind. However he calmed himself down trying to think rationally. She wouldn’t know what she was talking about. Besides leaving quickly would only lead to suspicions and that would force them to move once again. Something he knew that Rosalie wouldn’t be too fond of doing once again. He was snapped out of his deep thinking upon hearing her asking him a question. He cursed lightly under his breath as he took a few more seconds to try and rethink the question she asked. “I don’t think that counts much as a weakness. I skip lunch many times a week.” He said lightly
“My weakness would be that I’m really not that good at working with others. I am really not one for working with others. It’s a lot easier for me to work solo.” He said as he tried to give her some of the truth without fully exposing himself. Jasper did prefer to work alone on most things. He didn’t like being in large crowds due to the large amount of emotions that he would feel. “I also like to take charge of a situation brought before me. So I apologize if I seem too demanding.”

She never had expected it to happen, but gradually the small town of Forks was starting to be less predictable and uninteresting place as she had expected at the beginning. Suddenly, it wasn’t anymore just a single tiny place, cold and wet, her personal prison from the world outside where she was supposed to hide herself, instead there was something more… much more than she would ever imagine actually. Either it was because of her startling and mysterious partner, Jasper Hale, or the existence of some few and nice people on the small town, Evelyn could just hope that would mean an change on her typical boredom life.
How deep it could be the change? That she couldn’t tell and even thought it was something she should, probably, ponder about her attention or concentration on that particular day wasn’t the greatest. Instead, she couldn’t help but feel even more curious about her partner and trying to figure out what he was… yes, because he definitely had something else on him that she couldn’t put the finger on it. After all, it wasn’t that normal at all a boy, not much older than her, act this way toward her… it was almost life he was born in another epoch, perhaps more than a century ago, even thought it was completely impossible of course. And while any other single and normal person would find this rather perturbing, Evelyn couldn’t help but be rather fascinated and keep studying him curiously. Perhaps it was this special trait on Jasper Hale and his family that was so ‘scary’ for the rest of Forks inhabitants, but again the reason why they feared her didn’t slightly bothered her.
Who knew, perhaps, if it wasn’t this overconfidence that had sparked the boy’s curiosity? Evelyn wasn’t sure if it was because of that he had been kept staring at her so intently of the few minutes since they had started to talk, but the quickly hidden surprise on his features or his momentarily few seconds he had been apparently wandering so quickly through was enough of evidence for her. If he was surprised by Evelyn’s apparent lack of fear, then she really understood the reason for his curiosity… With so many people keeping their distance from the Cullens it seemed life it was obvious they were considered some sort of danger and yet, against any good judgment, Eve was treating him like anyone else so it surely would seem odd for him. Of course, he hadn’t the slightest clue about what she was, neither him nor anyone beside her own grandmother actually. Because if they knew then Evelyn was sure she would be the feared target around.
What she couldn’t understand, though, was the strange and quick wave of emotion that crossed Jasper’s face once she had replayed him later. It was like if he was, at first smug because she wasn’t afraid of just to, next, be frozen and slightly nervous with her words. Odd, what did I say to start such reaction? Evelyn wondered for herself perplexed. Had she insulted him in any way? Not, she hadn’t done anything that could possible be considering as insulting, but then why did it seemed like if she had been close to some deadly truth? It surely was her impression, of course, and instead of continuing torturing herself with questions, the girl pushed her thoughts away, and even shook her head lightly in order to keep focused on Jasper’s face words.
As she stayed focused listening at him, Evelyn couldn’t avoid but still notice how tense his body was, neither the way he moved his gaze from her while talking and, again, she wondered if she really had said something that bothered him. It was childish and pretentious, though, thinking she could perturb him that way, but what if it was true? And if it was true, what was the source of his troubled expression? It were on moments like these she just wished people’s thoughts were clear to her like water, but it just seemed to happen precisely the opposite.
But before she could figure out any possible reason, he continued talking and Evelyn did her best to listening. It was much better than staring at him oddly and look like an idiot when he would look back at her and waiting for some answer and she couldn’t say anything because she hadn’t pay attention. So, again she forced herself to pull away her thoughts and stared at him in disbelief when he said skipping lunch wasn’t valid as a weakness.
“Not a weakness? Believe me, it is for me… I need food to keep my metabolism working properly, so not having food equals to not having my body working correctly.” Evelyn argued and, like if her stomach wanted to give her more reason, she heard a small grunt inside and blushed lightly. It had been really low, yet she couldn’t avoid the concern he might had heard it even thought it was impossible… He would need to have supper hearing and, obviously, that wouldn’t be the case.
“Working solo… well, I see your point, but don’t worry about the demanding part. “ She started grinning softly. “ Believe me, I probably can be a lot worse than you on that aspect and if you add a very stubborn and obnoxious mind and until today no one was able to beat me up on this aspect. You can still try your luck, though.” Evelyn continued brightening her grin even more. “Besides this, I‘m rather fast and agile…Nothing too extraordinary.”
Vampire super speed and agility… surely nothing to extraordinary, she mused for herself but bite her tongue to avoid saying it out loud. They could probably win every game the professor had prepared due to that, but should she test her limits and use her abilities on the bare extreme of the humanly possible?

Jasper tried to look as calm and as normal as he possibly could as he sensed her curiosity level raising. Great this would defiantly give Rosalie a nice reason to start a rampage on him. They would usually leave once a person started getting too curious about them. He knew how much Rose liked it here, heck the entire family enjoyed being in Forks. It was as the closest to being human they would ever get. Maybe he could kill the girl before she said anything. No Carlisle would only frown on that. Perhaps there was something he could do that would make him less interesting.
However he had no idea as to what he could do to make himself less interesting. Sure he could screw up all the time while they did their challenges, however that would make him look bad in front of everyone. Something he wasn’t about to do. He sighed mentally as he tried to think of how to fix the mess he had created for himself. ‘I should have skipped.’ He thought mentally to himself. His instincts told him to skip the hour however it was his pride that told him to stay. Stay and prove to your siblings that you could make it through the hour without a problem. Regardless of how this hour turned out he was defiantly skipping out on the rest of the day. Perhaps he would just sit in Edward’s Volvo until the end of school. Or he would just run home, either way it didn’t matter to him.
Quickly thinking back over everything that had passed between the two, he tried to memorize how he moved the words that he said, and the manner that he said them in. Then he tried to make a mental note to ‘try’ and not do these things. After all if he didn’t give her any reason to suspect a thing then he would he safe. The family would be safe. Alice would be safe. That was all that mattered to him. He thought back to the first few words that had been spoken between them. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary them. He hadn’t moved too quickly, he hadn’t tried to control her emotions, and he defiantly didn’t try biting her. Again this was all very frustrating to him. He didn’t like being put into a situation where he wasn’t in control as to what was going on.
Then it hit him. Her last statement that she had made out to be as a joke. Jasper had tensed up at the bite me part. Of course at the moment he didn’t think much of it. He hadn’t believed that she would have seen the reaction it caused in him. After all no human was able to see the smallest of movements that they made. It was inhumanly impossible for them to see Vampires move at their speeds whenever the slightest of movements were involved. Or at least he had believed it to be impossible. From what Edward had mentioned this Bella was very aware of everything around her. Could it be that Evelyn was very aware of everything as well? If so then he would have to warn the others to be careful and to watch out for her.
Jasper returned his thoughts back to the conversation at hand. He had only missed the first few words of her sentence and hence forth did not really care so much. As long as he kept in focus to everything she said from here on out he would be safe. Yes humans did need to feed every few hours in order to make it through the day and night. Yet Jasper and the rest of the Cullen’s only had to feed every so often depending on how long they were able to control themselves. Of course Carlisle was the only person capable of total control, which they all envied. He was about to say something however the slightest sound of a grunt coming from her stomach caused him to stop briefly and cast a quick glance downwards before quickly bringing his gaze back to meet hers.
“I guess you could count that as a weakness then. Bad things can happen when not fed properly and regularly.” He stated with a small chuckle. He thought that to be a harmless phrase. He was of course speaking of his own problems with his uncontrollable thirst. However it was something that could also relate to humans as well. So no harm done……unless of course she saw the hidden meaning within the statement. Then of course that would be different.
He arched a blond brow slightly at the small grin that crossed her features. Humans hated being bossed around and demanding people. Heck he hated it whenever Rose demanded something, and when she wanted something everyone would know about it. So she thought she was worse than he was? He chuckled lightly as a small smirk spread over his features once again. If it kept him in the dark he would allow her to think that way. After all it’s not like she would know he was a Major in the Civil war. She wouldn’t know that he had command over his own fleet of soldiers.
So was she challenging him to out do her? If that was the case he would have to see what he could do in order to push her buttons. Although it would be easy to set her off. He was sure that a little anger, a little frustration would go a long way. “I wouldn’t encourage that if I were you. I come from a military background. All the men on my birth fathers side of the family were in the military. So I’m use to high standards.” He said giving a little information out about himself. It was all true…just over a hundred years ago.
“Then it seems we’ll have no problems being partners. I’m pretty fast myself, I’m just too lazy to join the track team. As I said I like to work solo and there’s too much team work in Track and Field.” He said with a small shrug of his shoulders. And of course Carlisle had forbidden any sports while at school. They had to sit out while they played baseball and had to be very very very gentle while playing other sports.

For the second time on that class Evelyn couldn’t avoid but feel there was, definitely, something wrong by the way her brain was working on that day… Or at least Evelyn hoped it was it the reason why she couldn’t just pull away the strange sensation that something was missing. She couldn’t put the finger on what it was and, definitely, it was really frustrating feeling that. It was like if something was tremendously wrong, or that there was something she should see but simply couldn’t. No. Instead the only thing she was feeling was the huge and empty whole inside her, that anxiety burying her inside for not being able to find her answers. It was childish, she knew, feeling that smug only because there was something for the first time she couldn’t understand, but that was just the way her stubborn and determinate head worked sometimes.
Despite the silent struggle with her mental faculties, Evelyn did her best to not let it be reflected on her clear face. Why would she perhaps pass the wrong impression at Jasper, him that seemed still so uncomfortable around her? And it was her fault. Eve couldn’t help but be feel rather guilty considering the possibility that she, probably, might had perturbed him so much, but it was better that way anyway… wasn’t it? Actually she wasn’t that sure anymore of what was wrong or correct lately, especially when it concerned about keeping people away of her or not… And the sudden disturbance on her rather calm and monotonous life had been brought under the cover of her actually and more than probably best friend on town, Bella Swan.
It was undeniably that Bella had changed her point of view about Eve’s long lasting isolation from the world, and the very result of that was the fact now Eve was more confused than ever about her choices and that moment there was no exception. Should she allow herself to be more social with jasper, or was it a rather terrible mistake let anyone join her life and risk putting them, later, on unquestionable danger? She knew the answer at that one: no. She had lived her past sixteen years with almost a lack of social life, so she could surely keep her life that way… at the exception of Bella, of course. At least one friend, that she was sure she could manage, beside she doubted she could hurt Bella that way by keeping her away from her.
One small and sad sight escaped her lips as Evelyn recognized on herself the defeat. There was something really wrong on her head these days, and perhaps it was her in fact the way her head seemed to not connect with her brain by making her allow such closeness with Bella or any other student… just like Jasper. Yeah, it would have to be that, actually. What else could be, anyway? It wasn’t not like if there was a bunch on mythical creatures’ right above her nose and she couldn’t see… Just the thought of that was so ridiculous that Evelyn felt the urge to laugh shortly, but yet she decided against it. Perhaps it wasn’t a good thing doing that in front of the poor boy or else he would start to thing she was completely mental. He wouldn’t be that far away from the truth, but yet she would still rather keep herself on a normal status as more as humanly possible.
Forcing herself to wake up from her inconstant thoughts, Evelyn trailed her gaze again toward Jasper and remained silent while he replied her, feeling a very soft and shy tone of pink touch her pale skin. He had agreed with her about the lack of food weakness, yet that wasn’t what was concerning her. What really was concerning now Evelyn was the actually and reinforced possibility that him, almost impossibly, had been able to hear the protest grunt of her stomach. He hadn’t show any sign he had actually heard it, but still it was a rather strange feeling she couldn’t completely put away pr ignore. Ridiculous, it isn’t possible. It isn’t like if he had vampiric super hearing to have been able to read it, Eve… Just snap out the hell of it. She argued inside and controlled the urge to hit with her completely messed up brain against a wall. Him being able to hear it... honestly, hat was she thinking?
His replay had been only that. One agreement replay about her sentence and with no other ulterior meanings. Why would she keep bothering herself about it? So, instead she simply nodded in agreement at his previous words. Yes, serious things could happen like fainting, going to the hospital on her case, sometimes, get thirsty. Her body tensioned at the simple thought. It wouldn’t bother if her thirst wasn’t for anything else beside water, but the truth was that it wasn’t. That was the thirst that would make her remember, once in a while, where still part of her origins remained… because that thirst was for blood. But that was something she had learnt to ignore and replace a long time ago and it didn’t bothered her own her current days.
Snapping back from her thoughts, again, Evelyn was puzzled to find one grin on Jasper’s face. She hadn’t to be a genius to understand it, though. It was like if had accepted her previous challenge about seeing which one of them could be more demanding and annoying. One challenge that was all that she needed to cheer up her dark mood and Jasper Hale had just brought up a very interesting one. He hadn’t not clue, though, how annoying she could be, he surely didn’t really know what he was getting himself into… And it wasn’t his statement that he had been from a military background that was going to scare her, by the opposite. That would just make things much more interesting.
“A military background, I see… Well, that doesn’t bother me particularly. “Evelyn said, with her eyes glinting with amusement. “I should had though of it, though. This explains the fact you are always so rigid, tense and apparently intimidating.” Evelyn joked lightly hoping he would relax. That surely couldn’t be misunderstood as something offending, now could it? “And I would be extremely disappointed if you wouldn’t demand a high standard.” She added, smiling briefly.
And he was fats himself… Evelyn couldn’t help but be rather pleaded by that. This way, she wouldn’t have to push her limits, since she wouldn’t need to cover for him. But before she could analyze further those advantages, the professor called them and Evelyn looked up surprised. It had already passed five minutes? That was strange.. she barely had noticed the time passing by on their small yet unusual talk…
“Well, it seems it is time for each of one prove who can be more anti-social or demanding.” Evelyn stated looking briefly in the direction of the professor only to just in quick seconds look back at Jasper’s golden hues. “Now tell me just one thing, please… Had he already explained anything about the games? I can’t remember now… “And why? Because there had been on part of that strange class that she had been panicking… but that was an unnecessary explanation for her to add. It wasn’t like if he needed to know that small detail….

It was hard to tell just what exactly she was feeling. So many emotions were rolling from her at once. Confusion, guilt, curiosity. It was almost enough to give him a headache if it were at all possible for Vampires to get headaches. However what he was feeling at the moment could be considered enough to be a headache. He tried hard to block everything out from around him. Including the girl next to him. Although that was easier said than done. In order for him to achieve what he wanted he would have to force the emotions out onto others. Something he didn’t want to do or rather something he wasn’t allowed to do. He could only imagine the chaos that would ensue afterwards. That would defiantly be a nightmare for him later on.
He had been able to too over look, or rather over smell the blood pulsating through her body due to the sweet scent she seemed to give off. However the moment the blood rushed to her cheeks cause a soft pink tint to her slightly pale complexion the scent of her blood wasn’t so easy to ignore. In fact the scent of her blood only seemed to make her natural scent all the more appealing to him. Jasper had come to terms many many years ago that women always smelt better than males. Although he assumed that the males smelt better to all female Vampires than the women did. He swallowed the venom that was quickly pooling in his mouth. It only made the burn in the back of his throat hurt that much more. Perhaps if he just nodded his head for the rest of the hour he would be safe. No that wouldn’t work, she knew that he was capable of speaking and would only get suspicious if he went back to being a mute.
The slight tensing of her body had not gone unnoticed by his keen eyes. In fact if anyone wanted to get really technical about it he had been able to see every little movement that she made. The flow of the warm fluid running under the membrane of her skin that was slightly visible to his eyes. He stopped all thoughts. Turning his head slightly he stared at another student within the gym. Yes the membrane of his skin was thin he could see the blood clearly. He turned his attention back to Evelyn. The blood was still see able however not as clearly as the other human’s had been. Why was that? There had to be something about her that made her skin thicker almost. If he had to take a guess he would say it was closer to his own skin yet at the same time it wasn’t.
Blond brows knitted together in slight confusion. This was defiantly something worth bringing to the families attention. Jasper knew that there was something off about her. She seemed almost like himself yet was completely human at the same time. That was normal, and needed to be discussed to protect the families secret. The creases in his brow smoothed out as he brought himself back from his thinking. He cursed at himself mentally for having completely blocked out everything she had said at first. All he had really caught was the ‘apparently intimidating’ part. He smirked lightly at her last statement of being disappointed. “Of course…that’s understandable.”. He said lightly his posture never changing.
Jasper couldn’t afford to ease up on himself. He had to constantly keep himself alert for anything that could possibly provoke him into attacking anyone. Plus it didn’t help whenever he was constantly feeling the emotions of others. He knew that the humans like to always believe that he was always constantly in pain. He would agree with him. It did pain him everyday to be around the humans for so many hours out of the day. It pained him to breath while around them, and the minute one of them broke skin he had to leave the building and get fresh air.
He turned his attention back to the teacher as he called for their attentions. He had noticed how it took her by surprise. Was she really that interested in learning about him? She seemed surprised by how quickly he time had flown by. Of course to Jasper time held no meaning to him. He counted years like the humans counted days. He returned his attention back to the teacher as he began to speak. So their first challenge was going to be a race, however not specified as to what type. Yet he already knew. Emmett who had gym earlier in the day had already told him everything they would be doing. Including what to avoid as well.
Golden hues looked back at her light blues. “We’re going to be racing. The team with the quickest finish time is the winner.” He said lightly before removing his right arm from behind his back and pointed to a long thick rope that was hanging from one of the many beams in the ceiling. It had been the first time he had moved any part of his body other than his head since the start of the hour. “We’re going to be racing to see who can climb that the quickest…of course without breaking our necks in the process.” He said with a slight chuckle. Yes it was a hazard for the humans to fall from the hanging rope. However Jasper would do more damage to the gym floor than to himself should he ever fall from that height. Of course that was thinking if he didn’t land gracefully on his feet.

Could anyone resemble, faintly, a marble statue cursed with an almost imperceptible excruciating pain craved on his beautiful features? Evelyn hadn’t ever considered before that strange and improbable possibility, yet this was the way she couldn’t help but use to describe Jasper’s Hale actual behavior. She couldn’t picture what had happened and, again, she could dismiss the strange and slightly annoying possibility that she could be remotely related with it. And it was tremendously frustrating, especially if after how many countless times she would try to think again on their exchanged words she couldn’t fin anything less ordinary or slightly responsible for his odd reactions. So, instead of starting her mental arguing once again she focused on Jasper, trying to for the first time read his body language.
Again, she was assaulted by the statuesque figure and his soft features craved by and incomparable pain, but there was fairly much more on him that now she could see on him. Hs body was like if frozen and tenser than ever, like if there was something inside he needed to hold back away from everybody. If it wasn’t for the notorious lack of transpiration, she could even say he was nervous… but there wasn’t any possible manifestation of such involuntary body reaction. And now that she was seeing it, she hadn’t ever seen on him any sort of body unwanted response. That, of course, wouldn’t probably mean anything and she knew she couldn’t simply take that as a fact when she barely knew him… But it still was relatively untypical.
That wasn’t, though, her worst concern on the present moment. Instead, it was the way he looked at her, like if he was seeing something he had never seen and, after, the way he looked briefly toward any other student just to look back at her and take a closer attention at Evelyn’s features once again leaving her with the deepest sensation that she had just been compared with someone and that, at the clever and observant eyes of Jasper Hale, he had found something different and very wrong on her. For the first time since that class had started Evelyn couldn’t help but feel like if one invisible nervous and tensioning force had caught her on its traps, and she actually forced herself to move her gaze away from the golden hues of the boy standing right in front of her to help her restart her face and compose herself inside.
His look was, though, craved on her memory and she couldn’t simply send it away, but it was then, away from the strange and golden eyes of Jasper, that she could perceive on his memorized face that there was also something else on his expression. There was one edge of protectiveness and concern, and as crazy as it might sound, like he too had himself on secret he was very overprotective off and couldn’t fully hide behind his slightly darker golden eyes. Like if it wasn’t already enough confusing his way of reacting, now Evelyn would have to start, as well, wondering what rather inexistent and simply imaginable secrets he could hold for himself. And that wasn’t, by any way, a reasonable or logic coherent thing to do. No, the expectable of her was, particularly her, to not hold on any curiosity interest by anyone, because she was a trouble magnet. “Of course…that’s understandable.” He said making Evelyn snap back from her thoughts quickly and look back at him. Had he said anything else, she really hoped not… And what she was supposed to say now? Her brain was still off, apparently, since she couldn’t simple manage any coherent trail of words, so she simple nodded and hoped he would speak again. She couldn’t be more relieved to know that, somehow, her prays had been heard “We’re going to be racing. The team with the quickest finish time is the winner. We’re going to be racing to see who can climb that the quickest…of course without breaking our necks in the process.” He said, answering her one previous question she had almost forgot of.
Her blue eyes followed the rail of Jasper’s hand and she frowned her face when they fell, ironically, on a long an thick rope. At that sight, Evelyn did really have to control her nervous reaction at its sight. How was she supposed to have her ‘qualities’ on check if the professor would be assigning them such activities? She couldn’t be too slow or appear clumsy, something that could make her fall and create a great damage on the floor, neither she could have total free movements since it would look... unnatural! She would have to chose a middle term and, well, that was going to be awfully difficult to achieve, especially now when her thoughts were wandering far away from the class she was attending.
“Oh… I see. So the professor wants half the clad dead by the end of the day. ” That was all she could manage to say once she looked the rope and, gladly, the professor come to rescue for her strange mute moment.
“Ms. Travis and Mr. Hale, would you mind go first?” The professor asked them and Evelyn couldn’t avoid but wonder why they would have to go first, looking around at the other students faces. She would, so much. Prefer to go in last, but yet what could she do?
“For me, that doesn’t matter.” She lied, softly and then dared to look at Jasper to see his response.
OCC: eww this sucks o.O I didn't know what Evelyn could possibly say. empty head, my apologies

There it was once again. He had somehow made her curious about him once again. She was too observant for her own good. If she wasn’t careful she would have to end up taken care of. How she was taken care of..well that could be left to imagination. It would all depend on how he was feeling at the moment. Either he could take care of her himself, and risk the chance of slipping up, or he could tell Rosalie about the girl and Rosalie would take care of her. Humans disappeared on a daily basis, they fell down stairs and snapped their necks easily. Of course dealing with the problem that way would have to be discussed outside of Carlisle’s hearing range, away from Edward, and of course he would have to make sure that Alice would somehow not find out about it and try to change his mind.
Refocusing his gaze back onto Evelyn he noticed that she was watching him closely. Although just what she was looking for he wasn’t sure. After all there weren’t many things that a human could notice about him. Other than his cold skin which was hard and smooth as marble. He always made sure to not move faster than human speed so he couldn’t really be caught moving too quickly. And if he did it wasn’t like she would have been able to notice him move..right? Although there she was studying him almost as if he was going to be the subject of a test later in the day. It made him feel nervous. And there weren’t many things that made Jasper Hale nervous.
He could feel her concern over something. Like he had done something that made her wearily of him. Like she was almost frightened as if he had discovered something that she was trying to hide from everyone around her. It was almost like himself or someone from the family whenever the made a small slip up and a human was starting to notice something about them. Although that was always easily fixed by moving stating that Carlisle had received a job offer elsewhere. Very rarely did they ever use Esme as an excuse to move somewhere. It was always a safer bet to always place Carlisle as the subject of reasoning.
Was she afraid of heights? Could that be the reason behind the frown that washed over her features? Most of the females did not like heights. They also hated climbing the rope because they could never really climb all the way to the top. Something that had to do with ruining their flawless skin or it just being so hard. He had even heard them try stating that the boys would try to look up their shorts. Humans made so many excuses to ‘not’ do things anymore it was rather sad. Jasper remembered whenever he was growing up if you were told or asked to do something you did it without complaining. The only ones who were excused were the ones who physically could not perform the task given to them.
Jasper chuckled lightly at her little joke about the professors wanting half the class dead. He knew that if that were to happen he would have to leave the room. And he would have to leave it quickly. There was no doubt in his mind that if someone fell from that height skin would be broken and blood would come pouring from the broken skin. “It would appear so.” He agreed with her lightly before turning his attention towards the professor as he heard his name being called. “..and it would seem we’re the first to try or fail.” He said before making his way over to the long hanging rope. Jasper knew that he would be able to reach the top within under a second. It wouldn’t take much to jump up and reach the top, nor would it take much for him to climb the rope. However he had to make it look like he was human. Perhaps a two minutes would be good to climb up and another two minutes to climb down.
Turning slightly he turned his gaze back to Evelyn. “Ladies first?” He said lightly. It was by his nature to allow women to go before himself. However he didn’t want to seem rude and put all the attention onto Evelyn. If she didn’t want to go first he would happily go first and get his turn over and done with.

Wasn’t it for the fact her attention was, on that exact moment, completely focused on the tremendously big rope standing some meters away from her, and Evelyn would actually notice the strange concentration frown on Jaspers’ face but at that particular reaction the girl laws completely oblivious for once. Right now, at the very verge of having to run and climb the rope, Evelyn’s thoughts were far away from the unique persona of Jasper Hale. Instead, her unfocused gaze was staring oddly toward the rope and her thoughts were flying thousand of mile per second in a clear attempt of find one way, any reasonable and possible way, that she could do her task without doing any mistake. Because, in all the truth, her problem wasn’t her inability of completing the requested exercise, the problem was doing it without showing up the outstanding gracious of her movements, her impressive strength or even her remarkable speed.
Yes, that was on that precise three aspect where her main problem remained. Not showing up and battling against her natural and instinctive tendency of using her inherited vampires, especially when she would have two classes of students plus professors as witnesses… Batting her lip nervously, Evelyn mentally studied her path carefully and theorized the amount of time she would have to force herself to do in order to keep one normal and random image of herself, the one that would hopefully allow her to stay unnoticed and have a small yet calm stay on the little Forks. Five minutes to climb up and down the rope? That seemed already a fairly good time and practicable time, for a girl… Of course, though, she knew the great amount of them wouldn’t even finish it so it was already a little pushy from her to allow herself finishing it, but it wasn’t neither fair to not give her ‘best’ on the class.
There were, however, still many things she should take in consideration while the overall task and she couldn’t, ever, allow herself to relax, but there was not too many time for her to think about them once her attention was brought back to the reality when she felt the strange and odd sensation that she was being observed. Looking up hoping it was her simple impression, Evelyn knew she shouldn’t be surprised to find his team mate staring at her oddly. Probably, he was thinking she was just like all the other girls, obsessed to not broke their nails and making u the most terrible excuses to not do the exercises assigned, but little did he knew about the real truth… Obviously, he was more than probably quite far away from the real motive why she was staring with such distress at the rope and Evelyn didn’t surely mind that. She was just tremendously relieved he wouldn’t, ever, be slightest close to the actual truth beneath her actions.
His amused chuckle at Evelyn’s past morbid and dark remark were, actually, the perfect way into helping her to put up plans together at once. For that, Jasper Hale didn’t know how grateful she was because, strangely enough, his words played the strange trick to calm down her anxiety for brief seconds, not matter how strongly her suspicious of his abnormal perception were getting bigger by the second. So, when he replayed her back she couldn’t help but grin back while follow him the way down to the rope, getting some strange stares from the other students toward her direction. Between roll her eyes or ask them what was their problem, she chose none and simply let her frustration and slight annoyance hidden from everybody.
“Try or die treeing… Quite lovely” Evelyn said shortly, looking at the distance that she would have to climb and crossing her arms around the chest. “Seriously, do they have to stare always like this? It’s nerve wrecking…”She still mumbled for herself, not intending to say it out loud but it was too late. She doubted anyone else could have heard her beside her partner, and she wasn’t sure if that was a god or bad thing. Not hen he seemed to react so strangely at anything she would say. “And you definitely go first… I need to prepare myself first for my young and sad death. Start the list with my last wish, those sorts of things, you know… “She added seriously, but yet one faint smile crossed her lips. “I will be on your side, partner.”

It appeared that Evelyn was too lost within her own thoughts for to even notice the quick glance over that Jasper had given her. What he wouldn’t give to be able to know what was passing through her mind at the exact moment. However knew that he would never ask for Edward’s ability to hear the thoughts of others. No that gift would be far too much trouble to try and control than the one he currently had. Jasper didn’t understand how Edward could keep himself from speaking out while at school. At the house they didn’t mind so much as he answered their thoughts although he tried not to and tried to given them some privacy. Although that was almost impossible when in a house filled with other Vampires that never had to sleep. Not to mention whenever Rose and Emmett decided to have a little fun. Everyone evacuated the house then.
He grew confused slightly as he felt the worry and anxiety that she was feeling slowly melt away. Then quickly replaced with gratitude that as directed towards him. What had he said or done to make her feel gratitude towards him? Quickly thinking back over everything that he had said nothing came to mind. All he had done was contribute to her joking with a small joke of his own. Usually a joke like that would only make one even more nervous than they already were. This girl truly was rather confusing to be around and yet at the same time rather interesting to observed.
Jasper casted Evelyn a side ways glance as she mumbled under her breath. The sound of her voice was plan as day for him to hear it. Almost as if she had said it out loud. “They’re curious to see if we actually climb this or back down.” He said as he gave their fellow class mates a quick glance before returning his gaze back to Evelyn. He couldn’t help but chuckle at her sarcastic remark on completely her last wish list. He turned his attention back to the rope before him. Taking a step backwards he counted the number of knots that were tied into the rope to help students climb it. there were fifteen knots in total each spaced about five feet apart from the other.
With a bored expression on his features Jasper took the rope in his hands and tugged on it gently. After all if he tugged on it took hard chances were he would pull the ceiling down. He moved his left hand as high as he could above his head before gripping the rope gently before hoisting himself up. Now Jasper could have climbed the entire rope with just his hands however he had to act human so once he moved about two feet with just his hands he wrapped his ankles around the rope placing them on the knot. ‘This isn’t fun at all.’ He mused to himself as he began to gracefully climb up the rope. It took him about two minutes to climb up the rope.
Glancing down quickly he couldn’t help but smirk and chuckle softly to himself. The thought of just dropping to the floor had crossed his mind. Oh the look of horror on the humans faces would be one to tell Emmett about later. However knew that it was out of the question. It would mean he would have to fake his own death. So returning his mind to the task at hand he began the agonizing process of climbing down at a snails pace. Or at least a snails pace for a Vampire. As he was about five feet from the ground he released his hands form the rope and landed on the hard wood floor in a crouch. Although to make it look more human placed his hand out behind himself to steady himself from falling backwards.
